What's that Parachute I Keep Seeing on the Blog??
I keep getting queries from viewers asking me about those little pictures next to my blog posts. They keep asking, “What the heck is that thing?” I thought I would explain it in a more enjoyable and entertaining way by showing you a few videos of me in action.
Before we go to the videos though, let me give you a little background.
Back in the day, I had a Powered Parachute business part-time. I was a flight instructor teaching people how to fly the powered parachutes. I created a website where I brokered Powered Parachute information and rated the different Powered Parachute companies. My brother David became the exclusive Florida dealer for a manufacturing company out of Washington state. Another brother, Frank, also owned a plane. We would all fly from West Melbourne over to the beach at Indialantic across the Indian River from Melbourne, Florida and would fly up and down the beach from Indialantic all the way to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, where I worked in law enforcement as a Special Security Specialist (similar to a SWAT team).
We all did a lot of flying back in those days and had a great time doing it. I have lots of videos if you would like to see them. We used to do “Touch n’ Go’s” at the Melbourne International Airport when there wasn’t much traffic.
When I lived in Orlando, I received permission to use a friends gigantic sod field to do my training. I would fly around many of the tourist attractions and even over to Disney World and cruise around the outskirts of the parks until 9/11. That’s when the FAA tightened up the airspace around all of the parks and that activity became “verboten” (forbidden).
When I lived in the Florida Keys, I would fly over the Homestead Speedway while it was being built, which was very cool. I would land in the infield while they were working on the racetrack and the bleachers. Homestead AFB had a very beautiful Ultralight airfield where I would take students for training. That is until Hurricane Andrew came and practically blew Homestead Air Force Base off of the map. It actually DID blow Florida City off of the map!
I used to fly over and around the Port of Miami. I would fly around the cruise ships, around Star Island, and flew along South Beach. Yes, the famous South Beach! I even found myself on the front page of the Miami Herald, Sunday edition, one weekend! (That is one of the icons that you see next to my blog posts, where you see me flying with the ships in the background.) But that’s another exiting story for another day!
Anyway, on with the show!… I hope you enjoy the videos as much as I did making them!

Lee and Frank's Powered Parachuting Trip to GA, Circa 1996
Back in the middle nineties, 3 brothers in the Hunt family owned parachutes, which we used to fly a lot. This is the funny story of one of those trips made by Frank and Lee. It took 3 days to drive to small airports and state parks in Georgia to fly Our powered parachutes. Back in those days the video was pretty bad, since all we had was VHS to record off of. This was copied from one of those VHS tapes, So apologies for the bad quality, but I think you’ll enjoy it anyway. There’s some good music and funny stuff to go long with the story.Hope you enjoy!
