The Fair Housing Act - Housing Discrimination and Assistance Animals
WOW! What an excellent presentation! I don’t know about you, but I learned a heckuva lot from Mr. Kassower’s presentation on what constitutes housing discrimination, emotional support animals and service animal protections, and a lot more.
We had our largest audience ever! I also received a record amount of complementary feedback from our audience! I would like to thank Mr. Kassower for volunteering his valuable time to help educate us on all of the pitfalls that can easily befall us should we fail to adhere to the strict federal guidelines of The Fair Housing Act.
Ask yourself these simple questions:
- Can I approve occupancy based on a criminal check or financial background? If so, do I know where to draw the line?
- What is a reasonable accommodation? What’s a reasonable modification? What’s the difference?
- What’s the difference between a handicap and a disability?
- What’s the difference between a support animal and a service animal? Can I refuse either one of these types of assistance animals?
- What is familial status discrimination?
- Can an association be liable for acts of the owners?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions, you might want to give some serious consideration to downloading the handout below, as it may save your “life” financially, if you’re a board member! I thought I was fairly well-versed in the FHA rules, as I’ve done research on the FHA website. Boy was I wrong! I will be putting out a summary of some of the highlights of Mr. Kassower’s presentation to go along with the presentation handout below. It’s one thing to read the handout. It’s quite another to hear the explanations in person from the expert! That’s why I invite each of you to attend our Synergy Club Meetings! We give you firsthand access to the experts in the field who not only provide you with a wealth of knowledge but are also available to answer questions real time!
Not only did Mr. Kassower give us a fantastic one-and-a-half-hour presentation, but he also brought each of us a comprehensive 40-page handout of his presentation to keep as a reference!
On a side note, not only is Mr. Kassower an expert in The Fair Housing Act but he and one of his law partners, Mr. Michael Kammer, are also experts in negotiating Bulk Telecommunication Agreements for Condominium Associations! They will both be giving a webinar on this most important subject to the residents of Century Village on September 24, from 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM. I highly recommend that you click on this link –
to register for this all-important webinar, for if we don’t play our cards correctly, we may end up paying much more for our TV service then we are paying currently. We need seasoned, longtime legal experts on bulk telecommunication contract negotiating in our corner when Breezeline tries to renegotiate our current agreement due to their difficulties in continuing to provide a service today! From my discussions with Mr. Kassower, the cost to have he and his partner negotiate on our behalf would be almost 10 times less than we paid for a consultant to negotiate the original contract! The words I believe he used when describing his partner walking into a room full of telecommunication salespeople to begin negotiations was, “Oh S—!” Now that’s the kind of negotiator I want on my side!
Anyway, back to the subject at hand… I have included the FHA handout in this post so you can download it and keep it for your own personal reference when the issues of housing and assistance animal discrimination comes up, which, surely it will. I know what you’re going to say, yes, it will happen, and don’t call me Shirley! LOL
